Thailand Delegation from Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation visited ShanghaiTech

On February 12, a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) of Thailand visited ShanghaiTech University. Led by Prof. Pasit Lorterapong, Deputy Permanent Secretary of MHESI, a group of 13 Thai guests were warmly welcomed by Dr. Jiang Ge, Vice President of ShanghaiTech, as well as Prof. Jiang Biao, Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Shanghai Institute for Advanced Immunochemical Studies (SIAIS) and Director of Innovation Cooperation Center (Bangkok), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), together with other representatives from SIAIS, iHuman Institute, School of Information Science and Technology (SIST), Office of Research and Office of International Affairs.


First, the delegation visited the Y Building where Prof. Yang Haitao, Executive Director of SIAIS and Prof. Zhong Guisheng, Assistant Director of iHuman Institute, introduced the history, outstanding faculty team and representative research achievements of the two institutes. The guests also learned about plans for the Center for Future Medicine, currently under construction, and were impressed by ShanghaiTech’s achievements in basic research and technology transfer. The delegation next visited the Multi-disciplinary Artificial Reality Studio (MARS) of SIST. They were amazed by the vivid visual demonstration and how artificial intelligence, computational imaging, and augmented reality technologies were integrated into practical applications.

Afterwards, a meeting was held in the Conference Center. Jiang Ge gave an overall introduction of ShanghaiTech. Pasit Lorterapong expressed his appreciation for the hospitality of ShanghaiTech, and briefly described the history and organizational structure of MHESI. During the discussion, ShanghaiTech representatives shared how student-centered education, innovative culture, talented and motivated faculty and students contribute to the rapid development of the university. The MHESI delegation then introduced the Global Partnership Program, which aims at enhancing international cooperation and the integration of clinical research organizations to support clinical research in Thailand. Finally, both sides expressed their wish to build and promote future collaborations.

Formed in 2019, MHESI is a Thai government body responsible for the oversight of higher education, research, and science and technology in Thailand. MHESI governs 156 colleges and universities, of which 84 are public institutions (including traditional universities, autonomous universities, royal universities and royal universities of technology) and 72 are private institutions.
